Oil depots run out of Petrol, brings life to standstill
Imphal, Jul 7: The oil depots in Manipur ran out of petrol stock thereby bringing normal life to a standstill here today.
Though diesel was available, the stock was running short, an oil depot official said.
The All Manipur Petroleum Tanker Drivers' Union had stopped supply of petroleum products since July 4, protesting the arrest of two of their members for alleged involvement in extorting money from an official of the Asom Oil Division, Imphal unit.
Officials said senior government and IOC officials were trying to resolve the impasse to ensure people do not face any difficulties.
About 300 oil tankers were responsible for distribution of oil to various depots but the stir has brought the situation to a grinding halt.
The Union said they will intensify their stir further if the arrested members are not released.
The union counter charged, saying that IOC officials were demanding money from the drivers.
