Guj Congress alleges corruption in Jyoti Gram Yojna
Ahmedabad, July 7 (UNI) Leader of the Opposition in Gujarat State Assembly and Arjun Modhvadia today levelled charges of corruption against Gujarat Government in the much-hyped Rs 1,000-crore Jyoti Gram Yojna.
In a statement here, Mr Modhvadia alleged that only few spells of rain early this week had disrupted power supply in thousands of villages in the state due to the usage of inferior materials and methods while laying separate rural feeder under the scheme.
The contractors, the senior Congress leader alleged, had completed the project in a haste under the direct supervision of Chief Minister's Office.
He alleged that the separate feeder lines were laid too close to the roads, atop electric poles of substandard materials on week foundations.
Quoting official reports, he said electricity is yet to be restored in thousands of villages even after the rains have stopped.
He said he had written at least three letters to Chief Minister Narendra Modi to stop the work as it violated the thumb rules and asked him to use quality materials and lay the lines through open land.
Mr Modhvadia demanded an independent inquiry by technical experts into what he described as a Rs 1,000-crore scam and also punish the guilty.
