Puri, Orissa, Jul 07 (UNI) It was a rare occasion for lakhs of devotees thronging this holy city to witness the ''sunavesh'' (the gold attire) of the three presiding deities of Jagannath temple on their respective chariots outside the Lions gate.

Lord Jagannath, his elder brother Lord Balabhadra and their sister Devi Subhadra who returned from their nine day sojourn from Gundicha temple to their original abode- Jagannath temple here yesterday appeared in their full form wearing pure gold attire with their respective ''ayudhas''.

Quintals of gold articles, including the legs, hands and other ornaments, were brought from the ''Ratna Bhandar'' inside the temple under tight security to the chariots for the three deities.

The darshan of the trinities, with gold ornaments all over their body, was another major attraction like the pulling of the chariots on both car festival day and its return festival day for the pilgrims.

Like the rath yatra day, the three km long Grand Road leading to the 12th century edifice was crowded with lakhs of devotees since this afternoon to witness the Sunavesh of the trinity.

Lord Jagannath was decorated with a huge gold mace, chakra, conch and lotus that presented a glorious look while his elder brother Balabhadra was decked up in a big gold plough and the club. Their sister Devi Subhadra was wearing lots of jewelleries.

The temple priests performed the daily chores of the deities on their respective chariots- Lord Balabhadra on ''Taladhwaja'', Devi Subhadra on ''Darpadalan'' and Lord Jagannath on ''Nandighosh's'' chariot.
