Designer Kiran Uttam Ghosh invited for Rome Fashion Week
New Delhi, July 7 (UNI) Fashion designer Kiran Uttam Ghosh has become the first Indian to be invited to showcase her work at the upcoming Rome Fashion Week, from July 10-14.
Kiran will be presenting a solo show at prime time on July 13.
Addressing a press meet here, the designer said that she would focus on bringing Indian influence on Roman streets. She said she hoped to see Italians wearing their clothes with Indian embroidery and 'chikankari' work.
Asked if she planned to go completely western on the international ramp, she said, "Why should I give them what they are better at?" Her basic focus was to come up with 'something' that would attract Italian buyers.
Kiran's latest collection is all about complementary opposites rather than absolutes. The fabrics she used in this collection are usually used for menswear like pinstripes, hounds-tooth and checks unlike the beautiful, bright, printed Gorgettes and chiffons.
Though being made from men's fabric her dresses do not miss the sensuality and femininity in them. She will be showcasing sarees with waist coats, cufflinks with brooches, Kolhapuris with wedges, white shirts with pitted saris, churidar pants, jackets with large collars and wing collars.
Her collection has been prepared using different shades of black, brown and grey.
