'Local body polls satisfactory'

Hyderabad, Jul 7: CPI(M) State Secretary B V Raghavulu today expressed satisfaction over his party's performance in the local body polls and said consultations were on with the CPI(ML) New Democracy seeking support for Khammam ZP Chairman post.

Speaking to newsmen here, Mr Raghavulu, however, said the CPI(ML) New Democracy Party was yet to give its response. The party also welcomed Congress support on the issue.

The CPI(M) leader said the party won 27 of the 135 ZPTC it contested. In Palvanchu and Manuguru in Khammam District, the party lost by less than 100 votes. However, its request a recount at Palavancha was denied.

Mr Raghavulu said his party's alliance with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) had paid dividends.

He said the ruling Congress should also take the reverses suffered by its seriously to rectify any shortcomings in the administration.
