BSNL targets Rs 3,300 cr revenue during current fiscal in AP

Vijayawada, July 7 (UNI) The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has set a target to achieve Rs 3,300 crore revenue in Andhra Pradesh during the current financial year, its Chief General Manager R K Arnold said today.

Addressing a press conference here, he said BSNL had earned a revenue of Rs 3000 crore during 2005-2006, and aimed to increase the profit by 30 per cent during this fiscal.

He said the Telecom department was planning to increase the WLL phone connections from 1.3 lakh to two lakh in the rural areas of the state.

The promotional offer of unlimited internet access charges of Rs 150 per month and unlimited SMS charges of Rs 50 a month on WLL phones in rural areas was introduced for 90 days with effect from May one this year, he added.

Plans were afoot to provide broad multiply services in 48 cities in the next six months so that customers could have a bandwidth of 25 MB.

The department would also provide 1.5 lakh more broadband connections in the state from the existing 65,000 connections, he said adding 32 more base transfer receiver stations would be established in Krishna district.

The department would increase the capacity of cellular services to 30 lakh from the existing 14.5 lakh by march 31 2007.
