Three die, rains disrupts life in western MP

Bhopal, Jul 5 (UNI) Three people died as they were washed away by floodwaters in Madhya Pradesh even as heavy rains disrupted normal life in the state's Khargone and Badwani districts with passengers being stranded as road links the past eight hours due heavy rains and floods.

Khargone's Jharia recorded seven inches rainfall overnight, while moderate to heavy rainfall continued to lash other parts of the state since last night.

Rivers and rivulets were in spate in Khargone and Badwani due to continuous rainfall since last night. The district's road links with several places were snapped since early in the day. The Khandwa-Badaud road was closed as a bridge was submerged.

Met department's local director D P Dubey told UNI here a low pressure area, built over Nagpur, had reached western near Madhya Pradesh.

The department predicted rainfall in the whole state in the next 48 hours with western part receiving downpours.

A UNI report from Khargone said, seven inches rainfall occurred in Jhirnia overnight, while it was six inches in Bhagvanpura, five inches in Bheekangaon, 4.5 inches in Segaon, two inches in Goganva and one each in Maheshwar, Badwah and Kasravad.

The situation was grim with Kunda, Veda, Borad, Hathini, Dalko, Kharak, Banganga, Surpala, Bandhani, Diwali, Deb and other rivers being in spate.

Road links of Khargone with Indore, Badwani, Bhagvanpura Sanavad, Badwah and Khandwa was completely snapped, while bridges were submerged due to flood in 'Kuan' and 'Veda' rivers.

Several passengers were stranded due as rivers were in spate.

Rivers were in spate in Badwani due to incessant rainfall in Badwani since yesterday afternoon and road links were snapped at some places.

Power supply was restored at several places after a gap of 8-10 hours.

Sendhwa recorded maximum rainfall, 90 mm, overnight, while it was 75 mm in Nevali, 72 mm in Rajpur, 58 mm in Beekiri, 28 mm in Pati 'tehsil' and 55.1 mm in Badwani.
