GM targets sale of 2 lakh vehicles per year

Bangalore, July 5: Auto major General Motors aimed to increase its car sales in India by four times by 2010 from the present 50,000 units targetted for the current fiscal, General Motors India Vice President (Marketing) Ankush Arora said today.

Talking to newsmen after launching the Chevrolet SRV here, he said that the capacity of its state of the art plant at Halol near Baroda would be increased to 85,000 from the present 60,000.

Mr Arora said that as already announced the company would invest Rs 1,400 Crores in India and Rs 200 Crore had been spent on a Research and Development wing here and another Rs 100 crore was spent on expansion plans.

Company Vice President P Balendran, who was also present, replying to a question said that the Company was in the process of deciding on introducing Mini or Small cars in Indian roads. He declined to give further details.

Replying to a question, he said the shrinking of the car market at global level would not have any impact on Indian market since it was growing at faster rate.

Mr Arora said that the Chevrolet SRV is a global product sold across Europe, North America, Canada and Asian markets. " With its combinition of modern Italian design, generous list of standard features and roomy interior, the stylish five-door SRV will appeal to young professionals and others looking for a vehicle that offers outstanding valure for money."
