Two police personnel killed in extremist attack

Gaya, July 4 (UNI) Two police personnel including an assistant sub-inspector, were killed and as many injured when extremists of the banned CPI(Maoist) attacked Tankuppa police outpost in the district last night.

Police Superintendent Amit Kumar Jain said here today that around 400 Maoists attacked the police station, forcing police personnel to engage in exchange of fire for nearly four hours. He said the extremists fired around 1000 rounds.

He said the extremists also made an abortive attempt to blow up the police outpost, which suffered some damages.

Mr Jain said assistant sub-inspector Upendra Singh and police chaukidar Ashok Kumar were killed in the encounter while two havildars were injured in the incident.

The injured have been admitted to a local hospital and an intensive search operation was on to nab the ultras.
