Tata Steel records rise in steel production in Q1

Kolkata, Jul 4 (UNI) Tata Steel today reported sales of 1.12 million tonnes of steel during the first quarter ended June 30, 2006, according to a company spokesman.

The company registered an increase of 28 per cent over the corresponding period of last year.

The sale of auto sector steel rose by 32 per cent to 0.19 million tonnes.

Tata Tiscon branded rebars registered rise of 42 per cent during the same period of last year.

Hot metal production was at 1.31 million tonnes and crude steel production at 1.21 million tonnes was higher by 8.2 and 9.4 per cent during the period under review.

Saleable steel production stood at 1.11 million tonnes recording 17 per cent rise during the first quarter over the corresponding period last year.
