Surjewala hails Bhajan's move to stay in Cong

Chandigarh, July 4 (UNI) Senior Congress leader Shamsher Singh Surjewala today welcomed Mr Bhajan Lal's intention to remain in the party after relinquishing its top post in Haryana.

''I welcome his statement that he would try to strengthen the party while remaining its active member,'' said Mr Surjewala, who is chairman of the All India Kisan-Khet Mazdoor Congress and a former Haryana Congress president.

When his attention was drawn to Mr Lal's statement that he felt relieved after the acceptance of his resignation as state party chief by the high command, Mr Surjewala said ''That's his personal opinion. He might have been unhappy with his lot.'' Regarding the newly-constitued Pradesh Congress Committe, he said a lot of new and young faces had been inducted into it.

To a question, Mr Surjewala said he was not aligned with any particular group in the state unit of the Congress.
