Strengthen banking services in Manipur: Governor

Imphal, Jul 4 (UNI) Manipur Governor Dr S S Sidhu has pulled up his socks to strengthen banking services and accelerate commercial activities for the development of the state.

Addressing the golden jubilee celebration of State Cooperative Society Ltd (MSCB) last evening, the Governor said, ''In the context of the rapid economic liberalisation and ever increasing financial activities, banks play an important role in the economic development of the state.'' He also stressed upon efficient financial management necessary for banking activities.

Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh said the banks have a pivotal role in the welfare of the society.

MSCB Ltd Managing Director H Deleep Singh said the bank has diversified its lending activities and was covering the farm and non-farm sectors. The bank has retained its third position, after the State Bank of India and the United Bank of India, in terms of quantum of loans disbursed during the last three years.
