Six people killed in house collapse
Bangalore, July 4 : Six people, including four women, were killed when two houses caved in following a massive landslide on the outskirts of Madikeri town in Kodagu District of Karnataka early today.
District Superintendent of Police Dr Ramachandra Rao told UNI that the deceased were sleeping inside their houses, located on a hillock, which got covered by the debris following the landslide triggered by torrential rains.
All the bodies have been recovered. A 17 year-old-girl, who was living in one of the houses, was thrown away by the impact of the landslide. She was resuced and admitted to a hospital in Madikeri.
Mr Rao said police along with rescue teams rushed to the spot immediately on hearing about the landslide.
He said the district had been experiencing heavy rains during the last two days and all the rivers and streams were overflowing.
