Six people killed in house collapse due to landslide in Madikeri

Bangalore, July 04 (UNI) Six people, including four women, were killed when two houses caved in following a massive landslid on the outskirts of Madikeri town in Kodagu District of Karnataka in the wee hours of today.

District Superintendent of Police Dr Ramachandra Rao told UNI that the decesed were sleeping inside their houses , located on a hillock was covered by the debris following the landslide trigged by torrential rains.

All the bodies have been recovered. A 17 year old girl, who was living in one of the houses was thrown away by the impact of the landslide was resuced and admitted to a hospital in madikeri.

Mr Rao said police along with rescue teams rushed to the spot immediately on hearing about the landslide.

He said the District had been experiencing heavy rains during the last two days and all the rivers and streams were overflowing.
