Six die, two injured in jeep accident in Uttaranchal
Dehra Dun, July 4 (UNI) Six persons died while two others, including the driver, were injured when a jeep going to Rishikesh from Hemkund fell into a 200 metre deep gorge near Rudraprayag today.
According to the police, the jeep fell into the gorge at Khakra, 15 km from Rudraprayag in the afternoon, killing six people and injuring two.
Overspeeding was reported to be the cause of the accident. The injured have been admitted to Srinagar Hospital.
All the passangers belonged to Amritsar, Punjab.
Five of the deceased passangers have been identified as Guru Shera Singh, Mukhminder Singh, Sukhendra Pal Singh, Binder Singh, Sandy. The identity of sixth victim is yet to be established.
Senior officials have rushed to the spot.
