Sikkim Chief, TAR Guv to jointly inaugurate international border

Gangtok, July 4 (UNI) Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chamling and Tibet Autonomous Region Chairman Qiangba Puncog will jointly declare the reopening of the Nathu La pass for resumption of bilateral border trade at a function scheduled to be held at Nathu La on July 6.

Nathu La pass is being reopened after 44 long years after the Sino-Indian conflict in 1962.

Official sources here said the two dignitaries will reopen the border by cutting the ribbon on July 6 at 0905 hrs in the presence of several dignitaries of both the countries.

Mr Chamling will see off the TAR Chairman across the international border after both the dignitaries address the gathering assembled at Nathula to witness the historic event.

The Chief Minister will then inaugurate the trade mart constructed at Sherathang to conduct the border trade at a separate function.

Ministers from Sikkim, top bureaucrats from the Central and state governments top defence personnel and a host of media personnel representing both print and electronic media are expected to be present to witness the historic event.
