Sensex dips 33 pts; breaks three days trend

Mumbai, July 4: The BSE sensitive index today discontinued the three days positive trend by declining 33 points to 10,662.22, after gaining more than 100 points in the early sessions.

The market swung 155 points to touch a high of 10,800.11 and a low of 10,644.72 points in the intra-day trade.

Some of the indices on the BSE which closed in the red were -- Midcap down by 0.08 per cent, smallcap down by 0.68 per cent, capital goods down by 1.45 per cent, consumer durables down by 0.38 per cent, FMCG was down by 1.89 per cent, IT was down by 0.08 per cent, Metals was down by 0.51 per cent, and Oil&Gas was down by 0.04 per cent.

The indices that closed positive were PSU up by 0.33 per cent to 4996.66, Auto up by 0.44 per cent to 4756.19, and Bankex up by 1.18 per cent to 4410.75.

Major gainers on the index were -- NTPC, Dr Reddy's Lab, HDFC, SBI, Tata Motors, Satyam Computers, HDFC Bank, ACC, TCS and Hindalco all up between 0.54 per cent to 3.73 per cent.

Besides, the losers on the index were -- L&T, ITC, Reliance Communications, Ranbaxy, Cipla, HLL, ONGC, Bharti Tele, Tata Steel, and Maruti udyog all down between 0.86 to 3.8 per cent.

Amongst the gainers NTPC was up by 3.73 per cent to Rs 115.45, Dr Reddy's Lab was up by 3.20 per cent to Rs 1327.00, HDFC was up by 2.51 per cent to Rs 1158.80, SBI was up by 1.74 per cent to Rs 755.25, Tata Motors was up by 1.26 per cent to Rs 796.00, Satyam Computers was up by 1.17 per cent to Rs 727.40, HDFC Bank was up by 1.12 per cent to Rs 787.20, ACC was up by 1.12 per cent to Rs 788.75, TCS was up by 0.81 per cent to Rs 1814.40, Hindalco was up by 0.54 per cent to Rs 176.85.

Where as L&T was down by 3.18 per cent to Rs 2191.00, ITC was down by 2.83 per cent to Rs 178.85, Reliance Communications was down by 2.54 per cent to Rs 247.20, Ranbaxy Lab was down by 2.22 per cent to Rs 349.45, Cipla was down by 1.94 per cent to Rs 210.25, HLL was down by 1.92 per cent to 232.35, ONGC was down by 1.90 per cent to Rs 1102.20, Bharti Tele was down by 1.76 per cent to Rs 363.45, Tata Steel was down by 0.89 per cent to Rs 537.40, Maruti Udyog was down by 0.86 per cent to Rs 785.50.

The breadth in the broader market was in the favour of 1,328 declines as against 1,036 declines out of 2,439 scrips traded on the BSE sensex.
