Repeal of 'Goonda Act' politically-motivated: Chandy
Thiruvananthapuram, July 4 (UNI) Leader of the Opposition in the Kerala Assembly Oommen Chandy today alleged that the government decision to repeal the controversial Kerala Felonious Activities (Prevention) Ordinance, known as 'Goonda Act,' was ''politically- motivated''.
Talking to mediapersons here, he urged the government to reconsider its decision not to reissue the ordinance, which was brought by the previous United Democratic Front Government to deal with goondas and other anti-social elements.
Alleging that the decision was to protect certain individuals, Mr Chandy said the government had the responsbility to explain why did it decided to repeal the Act.
On the confrontation between the Government and managements of self-financing professional colleges on the Professional College Bill, Mr Chandy asked the government to convene a meeting of the managements and evolve a consensus on it.
Suggesting that both the Government and the managements avoid threat and confrontation on the issue, he said they should give priority for the future of students.
