Power situation in Delhi grim, 578 MW loadshedding

New Delhi, July 4 (UNI) The power situation in the capital today remained grim with several areas experiencing nearly an hour of loadshedding.

Out of the peak demand of 3821 MW, the Delhi Transco limited could meet only 3243 MW, resulting in a loadshedding of 578 MW.

Delhi Transco officials said the power crisis witnessed in the capital was largely due to the fact that the existing generation was low while the demand was high, which often led to the Northern Grid, the main source of power supply to the capital, experiencing frequency problems.

Another reason for the shortfall was the shut down of the 200 MW Badarpur power plant, which was undergoing maintenance.

The grim power scenario is expected to remain for at least the next few days with the Badarpur plant expected to remain shutdown for quite some time due to maintenance.
