PLA cadre held by Assam Rifles

Imphal, July 4 : Assam Rifles (AR) apprehended a People's Liberation Army (PLA) cadre in an operation conducted here in the last 24 hours.

AR here today said that based on specific information, 4 AR launched an operation and apprehended the PLA cadre.

In a separate incident, Assam Rifles seized illegal timber at IT road.

Forest officials informed that the timber was worth Rs 7.75 lakhs and smuggled in 16 trucks at night. The timber belonged to various contractors operating from Imphal and Senapati.

It was one of the biggest seizures in recent times.

The illegal smuggling of wood has led to large-scale deforestation in the state, AR sources said.
