Oil India to start oil production after liquification

Jaisalmer, Jul 4 (UNI) Oil majors Oil India will start the production of oil after liquifying the solidified oil in the wells, for the first time in the history of India.

Till now, only already melted and liquified oil was produced from the wells.

Venezuela has provided the technology for liquifying and producing oil, by injecting vapour into the wells. This unique project will get underway from the second week of this month in Vaghewal when Oil India CMD A M R Pasricha and Venezuelan officials will be present.

Oil India's Rajasthan's project's general manager T K Bhattacharya said vapours generated from around 400 tonnes of water would be injected into 800 m deep oil wells at 80-90 degree Celsius temperature which will continue for some days. After that the oil wells will be closed. After five-seven days, the liquified oil will collect in the upper half of the well which will then be produced Boilers and other equipment have been installed to inject vapour into the wells.

Mr Bhattacharya said Rs 50 crore would be spent on the project. The oil produced will then be used for experimentation.

If the experiments are successful, digging of more oil wells will follow.
