Meghalaya completes 199.78 kms rural road network
Shillong, Jul 4 (UNI) Meghalaya has completed a road network of 199.78 kms with central assistance in the last three years under various programmes of the government.
Under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY) scheme about 53.65 kms were completed in the year 2004-05.
In order to ensure agricultural connectivity, the Centre gave a major thrust on construction of rural roads.
According to officials, the state government has completed road works covering 13 villages. In 2005-06 about 73.07 km roads were completed, covering 33 villages, with central assistance of Rs 7.5 crore under PMGSY. Similarly, under Bharat Nirman around 73.066 km roadworks has been completed covering 13 more villages.
The budget allocated under PMGSY for 2004-05 was Rs 2400 crore which was increased to Rs 4200 crore for the 2005-06 fiscal year.
In order to improve the pace of implementation of the programme in certain states, special measures such as induction of Central Executive Agencies have been taken.
