MCC to undertake manuscripts preservation treatment
Rajahmundry, July 4 (UNI) The Manuscripts Conservation Centre (MCC) of Salar Jung museum, Hyderabad, will undertake a preventive and curative conservation treatment of all deserving manuscripts in the state under a national mission for manuscripts project.
Informing this at a press conference held at the Gowthami Library here, Salar Jung museum conservator Ahmed Ali said the MCC was entrusted with the task of providing training on conservation techniques and spreading awareness on the upkeep of manuscripts.
He said Salar Jung museum Director incharge Dr A Nagender Reddy would inaugurate a Mobile Manuscript Conservation Laboratory (MMCL) at Gowthami Library today.
While more than one lakh manuscripts were identified in the state, about 96,000 were from the government, public and 46 libraries, he added.
Of the 14 libraries in which the work had already begun, seven had been completed, he said adding aout 35,000 manuscripts were identified in East Godavari district, the highest in the state.
He said 400 manuscripts, including Palm leaf in Gowthami library, would be treated by deputing conservation assistants from the Salar Jung museum.
The cost for the preservation and conservation treatment would be borne by the national mission project for manuscripts initiated by Union Tourism and Culture Ministry, he added.
