Kumbakonam fire mishap: Copies of chargesheet given to accused

Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, July 4 (UNI) Copies of chargesheets in the 2004 Kumbakonam school fire case were distributed among all the 24 accused by the Judicial Magistrate Court at Kumbakonam today.

The police had filed the 3,126-page chargesheet, citing 60 documents and 490 witnesses, in the court last year but their copies were distributed today.

The fire, which occurred at the Krishna Primary and Nursery School , claimed the lives of 94 children and left 18 others seriously injured.

Police arrested 18 people, including the school founder, headmistress and officials of the Education Department, in connection with the case.
