Koirala not well; kept in ICU

Kathmandu, July 4 (UNI) Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala was admitted to the Sahid Gangalal National Heart Center last night after he complained of sudden weakness.

Mr Koirala's personal physician Dr Madhu Ghimire today said the condition of Mr Koirala is stable and he has been kept in the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital.

''We wanted to give extra attention to his health, so he is admitted in the ICU,' Dr Ghimire said.

Preliminary investigations have shown some traces of pneumonia in Mr Koirala's right lung, he said.

The Prime Minister had returned home last week after one week treatment at Bangkok, Thailand.

Hundreds of leaders and well wishers, ministers and Indian ambassador to Nepal Shiv Shankar Mukherjee visited the hospital last night to learn about Mr Koirala's health condition.

''He does not have any cardiac problem'', chief of the hospital, Dr Bhagwan Koirala said.

A team of doctors from India was also reaching Kathmandu today to examine Mr Koirala, sources said.

The 83-year-old veteran politician of Nepal has been ill for the last few months.
