Jeweller, wife murdered by dacoits

Ludhiana, July 4 (UNI) Renowned city jeweller Darshan Singh and his wife Paramjit Kaur were shot dead by three unidentified dacoits at their residence in Civil Lines here in the wee hours today.

The dacoits struck their house at 0300hrs and forced them to hand over the keys of the three jewellery showrooms in the city. But the middle aged couple resisted following which they were shot dead.

The deceased are survived by their 19-year-old son Jagmeet Singh and a married daughter Nancy.

Senior police officials, including SSP A S Rai and ADGP (Law and Order) Chander Shekhar, reached the spot and began the investigations.

According to Nancy, the daughter of the deceased couple, there was no response from the police when she had dialled '100' after locking herself in a room when the dacoits attacked her parents.
