HP to amend Panchayati Raj Act, says minister

Dharamshala, July 4 (UNI) The Panchayati Raj Act in Himachal Pradesh will be amended to suspend those representatives who fail to attend the panchayati raj department's training twice in a row, Revenue Minister Sat Mahajan today said.

The state government was keen to see that the public representatives connected with panchayats, block samities and zila parishads get proper training to carry on the functioning of the panchayati raj institutions, he told UNI here.

Mr Mahajan said a member failing to attend the department's training programme twice in a row would be suspended after the Act was amended.

Each panchayat would now hold a general body meeting after every three months on second date of the month and the functionary of the panchayat area was supposed to attend it positively, he said.

He said these meeting would also be attended by the local MLA, minister and M P and added that the Chief Minister, MLAs, Ministers and M Ps have been told to attend these general body meetings regularly.

Mr Mahajan said each Panchayat would have its own building besides facilities of toilets for both men and women.
