Heroin worth Rs 3 crore seized
Chennai, July 4 (UNI) The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has seized 3.1 kg of heroin worth about Rs three crore and arrested two persons in this connection at the international airport here.
Based on a specific information, officers of NCB, South Zonal unit, intercepted a person, Mayin Kutty alias Syed Alavi, who was about to leave for Jeddah by a Saudi Airlines flight yesterday with a fake Indian passport.
They searched his baggages and found the contraband concealed in a false bottom of his suitcase. His accomplice, Mohammed Ali, who had come to see him off was also apprehended.
The duo were remanded to judicial custody today, a release from NCB said.
The seizure indicated increased trafficking of heroin to West Asia as about 11 kg of heroin destined for the place had been seized and five Keralites were arrested by the NCB so far this year, the release added.
