Govt sanctions 4 cr for foodgrain godowns in NE

Aizawl, Jul 4: The Ministry of consumer affairs, food and public distribution has released Rs 4.86 crores to Food Corporation of India (FCI) for constructung godowns for foodgrains across the North Eastern states.

Being ten per cent of the budgetary plan allocation against the total 48.62 crore, the Ministry of consumer affairs has instructed FCI to construct godowns in Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram, Nagaland and Assam, according to their requirements, official sources here today informed.

Against this release, currently, FCI has spent Rs 412.04 lakhs for the NE states,which includes,Rs 78.43 lakh in Jiribam (Manipur), Rs 102.12 lakh in Agartala phase II and Chandarpur (Tripura), Rs 173.43 lakh in Lunglei, Lawngtalei and Bulpui (Mizoram), Rs 29.92 lakh in Dimaphur phase I and Phase II (Nagaland) and Rs 28.14 lakh in Chalkowa, Sanchowa and Badarpur Ghat in Asom.

FCI would also be spending the money for the rice grains for public distribution scheme across the region, official sources added.
