Eleven workers escape as electric pole falls on boat

Madikeri, Karnataka, July 4 (UNI) Eleven workers of a private jungle resort had a miraculous escape when an electric pole fell on the boat in which they were sailing in the swollen Cauvery river at Dubare in Kodagu district this evening.

Police said the pole fell on the motor boat, carrying the employees back home from the island resort. While some of them swam to safety, three persons hung on to a tree branch hanging low until they were rescued. The boat was washed away in the swirling waters, police added.

The hilly Kodagu district was experiencing heavy rains since the last three days, resulting in landslips, falling of trees and inundation.
