Dr Kousalya Devi conferred with Aram award

Chennai, July 4 (UNI) Social activist and eminent physician Dr Kousalya Devi, Managing Trustee, Gandhi Gram Trust has been conferred with 'Aram Award' for 2006.

Tamil Nadu Finance Minister K Anbazhagan presented the award to Dr Devi at a function here in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the society.

The award was instituted to honour eminent contributors of the society, who lived their lives, adhering to the core values advocated in 'Thirukural,' a treatise in Tamil on social life.

The award selection committee, comprising Mr Natarajan, Mr G Ranga Rao and Mr A M Swaminathan selected Dr Devi from 179 nominations.

Last year, the Aram award was presented to Mr M P Vasimalai, Founder, Madurai-based Dhan foundation.

The award carried a cash prize of Rs one lakh and a citation.

Mr Anbazhagan also presented prizes to junior, senior and college-level students in the Thirukkural oratory competition.
