DMK nominee set to be elected to RS
Chennai, Jul 4 (UNI) Mr K P K Kumaran, industrialist and DMK nominee for the Rajya Sabha seat vacated by Actor Sarath Kumar, was all set to be declared elected as the nomination of his only opponent was rejected on scrutiny today.
The nomination of Mr Padmarajan, an independent candidate, was rejected as his name was not proposed by the legislators as required.
He had also failed to pay the deposit amount, sources in the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer here said.
Since the filing of nominations had come to a close yesterday and there was no other contender in the fray, Mr Kumaran would be officially declared elected on July six, the last date for withdrawal of nomination.
The election became necessary following the resignation of Mr Sarath Kumar as MP after he joined the AIADMK prior to the Tamil Nadu Assembly polls in May 2006.
Mr Kumaran, son of Former DMK Minister K P Kandasamy, recently sold 'Dinakaran,' a newspaper floated by his father, to Mr Kalanidhi Maran, who owned the Sun TV Group.
He is also the grandson of Mr S P Adithan who floated the 'Dina Thanthi' Group of papers.
