New Delhi, July 4 (UNI) The Government today announced the appointment of noted economist Prof Suresh Tendulkar to head the National Statistical Commission.

Prof Tendulkar will be the Chairman of the Commission which is the nodal body of all core statistical activities of the country.

He will be assisted by four members of the Commission, namely Dr Surjit S Bhalla, Prof Amitabh Kundu, Prof Bikash Sinha and Dr Padam Singh.

Set up through a resolution in January 19, 2000, the Commission consists of a part-time Chairman holding the status of a Minister of State and four part-time members of the status of Secretary to the Government of India. It is assisted by a full time Secretariat here.
