JK: Attack on convoy foiled, militant killed
Srinagar, Jul 4: A militant plan to attack security force convoy on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway was today foiled by troops when they gunned down an ultra at Pampore.
Official sources said that at 0730 hours, 139 batallion of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a joint operation at Kondabal Pampore, about 12 km from here on the highway following a tip-off that militants will attack security force convoy.
However, when the area was being cordoned off, militants attacked them with automatic weapons. The fire was returned and in the ensuing gunbattle, a militant was killed.
One AK rifle, one magazine, two hand grenades and other arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militant.
