Sugarcane farmers to block highway tomorrow

Written by: Staff

Mysore, July 3 (UNI) Sugarcane growers, under the banner of the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha, will block the Mysore-Bangalore highway from Srirangapatana up to Maddur for an hour tomorrow, demanding better price for sugarcane.

Talking to newspersons at Mandya, KRRS President K S Puttanniah said the Government should fix Rs 1,200 per ton for sugarcane supplied to sugar factories. KRRS would not accept the price of Rs 1,050 per ton announced by the Sugar Minister recently.

He urged Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy to consider the demand and warned that the farmers would intensify their agitation if the demand was not met.
