Serb inmates sew lips shut in jail protest
BELGRADE, July 3 (Reuters) Sixty five inmates in Belgrade's main prison sewed their lips together and 320 refused breakfast to protest against jail conditions and slow courts, the justice ministry said today.
''All inmates who sustained self-inflicted wounds got prompt and adequate medical treatment while those who refused breakfast are under constant medical supervision,'' the ministry said in a statement.
The inmates are protesting against the slow processing of their cases in courts and overcrowding in detention.
