Srinagar, July 3 (UNI) A local court here remanded senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from Jammu and Kashmir Iqbal Khanday and Naaz Hotel owner Riaz Kawa, arrested by the CBI in connection with the sex racket case, in 14-day judicial custody and sent them to the Central Jail.
Khanday and Kawa were produced in person in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Srinagar Mohammad Yousuf Akhoon who remanded them in 14-day judicial custody.
Both were sent to the Central Jail here.
Earlier, the Judge had remanded the two in four-day CBI custody which ended today.
Khanday, the Principal Secretary in the Planning and Development Department of the Jammu and Kashmir government, was arrested by the CBI from here on June 29 evening.
Kawa was arrested by the agency sleuths from the Jammu airport on the same day.
Khanday is an IAS officer of 1978 batch and had served on several top posts, including as the Principal Secretary to former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. He is the first person from Kashmir to have qualified in the Civil Services examination.
Both were arrested under section five of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act.
