Need to debate SEC autonomy : TDP

Hyderabad, Jul 3 (UNI) The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) today asserted there was a need to conduct a state wide debate on the autonomous status of the State Election Commission (SEC).

Addressing the press here, TDP Senior Leader K Srihari alleged the SEC was not performing its duties as per the Constitution and misusing power, favouring the ruling Congress Government.

A debate on the autonomous status of the SEC would only allay the apprehensions on the role of SEC in the elections.

Expressing confidence that the TDP would win majority seats in the panchayat poll conducted on June 28 and July two in Telangana region, he said the party would also win six to eight Zilla Parishad Chairmen posts.
