Minister alleges hidden motive behind opposing Bill

Thiruvananthapuram, July 3 (UNI) Kerala Education Minister M A Baby today said a section of the self-financing professional college managements was opposing the Self-Financing College Bill as they had certain ''hidden motives.'' Talking to mediapersons here, he said the provisions of the Bill were clear and transparent and those who opposed to the Bill should have certain covert interests.

The Left Democratic Front (LDF) goverment had no confusion on the Bill and the Congress and the United Democratic Front were having the confusion, he alleged.

On the managements threat that they will close down their colleges, he said without government cooperation they could not run their institutions in the state. In case they close down their collges, the governmnet knows how to handle it, he warned.

Mr Baby said the goverment would take all steps to get the Bill included in the Nineth Schedule of the Constitution.

Stating that a regulatory body will come to look after the fees related issues in the self financing colleges, he said the government was not itended to disscuss the issue. However, it would not allow the managements to squeeze students in the name of fees, he added.
