Medha patkar asks R R Patil to rehabilitate slum dwellers
Mumbai, July 3 (UNI) Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) leader Medha Patkar today asked the Maharashtra government to rehabilitate displaced slum dwellers in Mumbai on an urgent basis.
Ms Patkar, who met Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil with her demands, said she had told the government that the slum dwellers in Shivajinagar area of Mankhurd in central Mumbai who were evicted by the authorities were not given alternate housing.
She said the slum dwellers were on a agitation in Azad Maidan since May 17 and if the government did not heed to the slum dwellers demands ,they would resort to an agitation.
She also discussed with Mr Patil issues concerning the Narmada dam rehabilitation in Maharashtra.
Mr Patil assured to take up the issues with the Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh.
