Kalam throws challenge to Doctors on Sonal's eye disorder

Bhubaneswar, Jul 03 (UNI) President A.P.J.Abdul Kalam today requested the doctors of L.V.Prasad Eye Institute to treat a student, who secured tenth rank in the Board Examination, despite eye disorder.

Mr Kalam, who inaugurated the Bhubaneswar Eye Institute, an unit of the L.V.Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad, said he had recently come across a press report that class XII student Sonal Jena of Fakir Mohan Junior College at Balasore in Orissa, who had secured the 10th rank in the board examination despite having an eye disorder.

The boy cannot study for more than two hours a day. Sonal's father while being happy to see the extraordinary performance of his son in spite of pigment problems in both his eyes, was now a worried person.

The President said Sonal has been suffering from irritation and his eyes start watering, if he studies continuously for more than twenty minutes.

The President said he was hopeful that the doctors of Bhubaneswar Eye Institute would take this challenge and find a cure for the pigment problem experienced by Master Sonal who could not study science because of the eye disorder.

The financial support required for the treatment of the student could be arranged, Dr.Kalam said adding that the treatment would definitely be helpful to many other patients having similar problems across the country.
