June sales of Maruti, Hyundai

New Delhi, July 3 (UNI) Car market leader Maruti Udyog Ltd today posted a 17 per cent increase in its total sales in June at 48,425 units, as compared to 41,390 units in the corresponding month last year.

The sales of the popular Maruti 800 went up by 21.1 per cent at 7,796 units as against 6,387 units in June '05, while the company's sales for the Gypsy and Vitara models doubled during the month at 458 units as against 222 in the same month a year ago.

The sales of the Omni and Versa also rose by 43.9 per cent at 4492 vehicles against 6464 units in the same period a year ago.

Baleno and Esteem sales recorded a 22.3 per cent rise in June at 2680 units as compared to 2191 units in the same month previous year.

The sales of Alto, Wagon-R, Zen and Swift grew by 10.2 per cent at 27,228 units in the month as against 24,703 units in the corresponding period last year.

The Indian arm of Hyundai Motors, Hyundai Motors India (HMI) registered a 39.6 per cent growth in its sales in June this year at 27,251 units as against 19,516 units during the same month previous year.

Also, General Motors India, which launched its Sports Recreational Vehicle (SRV) on the Chevrolet platform last week, reported a 53 per cent growth in it sales for June 2006 at 3,346 units as against 2,183 units during the same period last year.

The sales comprise 1,961 units of Chevrolet Tavera, 1,006 units of Aveo and 379 units of Optra.
