Gang of container thiefs busted, six arrested

New Delhi, July 3 (UNI) The Delhi Police have busted a gang involved in pilferage and stealing of consignments made to other countries at the Tughlakabad container depot and arrested six people in this connection.

The six - Chaturdev Sharma, Mangesh Chauhan, Atul kumar Bansal, Raj Narayan, Sunil Kapoor and Sunil Jain - were arrested on July 1 from various areas of South Delhi following complaint by the director of Raghubir Exports, Vinit Sahai that 248 cartons of export quality towels senT by him to Italy through the TugHlakabad container depot were missing from the consignment.

After a thorough investigation, Chaturdev Sharma and Mangesh Chauhan were arrested from Badarpur with 52 cartons of stolen towels while two others, Atul Kumar and Raj Narayan, the receiver and commission agent respectively were nabbed from the Kalkaji area with 18 cartons.

The interrogation helped police to arrest Sunil Kapoor of Amit Enterprises in Chirag Delhi with 150 packets of stolen towels. Sunil Jain was arrested from the Lajpat Nagar area with 48 cartons of stolen towels.

Interrogation revealed that Vinod Sharma, younger brother of Chaturdev sharma was the mastermind of the gang, having expertise in stealing from the containers. He was recently arrested in a case of container theft in which brass articles worth Rs 30 lakhs were recovered from him.
