Four villagers killed in landslides in Orissa

Berhampur, July 3 (UNI) Four villagers were killed and two injured in landslides in two villages located at the foothill under Guma block in Gajapati district today.

Police said all the four villagers killed in the mishap belonged to the Jangrital village under Badakalekeot panchayat, about 160 km from here.

Incessant rains for the past three days caused landslides and a major portion of a hill caved in on the village located at the foothill.

In another incident, two villagers were injured, while as many were found missing after a major portion of a hill collapsed following torrents at Minjiri village.

The local Tehsildar and Fire brigade personnel had rushed to the villages and launched the rescue operation. The officials said the casualty might increase as several houses were buried in the landslides.
