Deep depression brings rains to AP

Hyderabad, July 3 (UNI) The deep depression, which crossed the Orissa coast between Paradip and Chandbali last night and lay centred close to Cuttack, brought widespread rains in the state, particularly in north coastal Andhra Pradesh, today.

''The system is likely to move in a west-northwesterly direction and as a result, the rainfall activity over Telangana will increase further in the next two to three days, with very heavy rains at a few places,'' Hyderabad Meteorological Centre Director Satya Kumar told UNI.

Squallys with speed reaching 50 to 55 kmph along and off Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts and strong offshore winds and off westerly with speed reaching 45-55 kmph in coastal Andhra are likely, a Visakhapatnam report quoting the Cyclone Warning Centre said.

Isolated heavy to very heavy rain was likely in the districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East and West Godavari districts of coastal Andhra Pradesh during next 48 hours. Isolated heavy rain was likely in the districts of Khammam, Warangal, Karimnagar and Adilabad of Telangana during the same period.

Moderate to rather heavy rain/thundershowers were likely at most places in the districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari and West Godavari of Coastal Andhra Pradesh. Moderate to rather heavy rain/thundershowers were likely to occur at many places over Telangana and in the remaining distrists of Coastal Andhra Pradesh while light to moderate rain/thundershowers were likely over a few places over Rayalaseema.

Under the influence of the system in the Bay of Bengal, Southwest monsoon was vigorous over Coastal Andhra Pradesh. Rain occurred at a few places over Telangana and isolated over Rayalaseema.

Komarada and Patapatnam recorded a very high 19 cm each, followed by Veeraghattam 15, Palakonda 14, Palasa 13, Mandasa and Tekkali 11 each, Sompeta 10, Bobbili, Ichapuram 9 each, Kalingapatnam 7, Cheepurupalli 6, Ranasthalam, Saluru and Terlam 5 each, Vizianagaram 4, Banswada and Kamareddy, Gajapathinagaram and Srungavarapukota 3 each.
