Gulbarga, July 3 (UNI) The death of a Dalit youth in the Government Hospital here allegedly due to doctor's negligence sparked off a protest by the activists of Republican Party of India and Dalit Sena, today.

Police said Ramesh (26), a nursing student, was admitted to the GH here on April 10 with stomach pain. Laprotomy procedure was performed on him, but he developed infections. Following this, his parents shifted him to a private hospital in Hyderabad and then in Bangalore. However, as they could not bear the expenses, his parents re-admitted him to the GH. After battling for life for a couple of weeks, the youth died today.

RPI and Dalit Sena activists took the body in a procession to the Deputy Commissioner's office and raised slogans against the doctors.

They demanded the DC suspend the ''negligent'' doctors and grant a compensation of Rs five lakh to the family of the deceased.

Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Pande met Ramesh's parents in front of his office and assured he would recommend to the Government that stern action be taken against the erring doctors and announce ex-gratia.
