No adverse impact of BSP on Congress' electorate: CM

Jalandhar, Jul 2 (UNI) Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh today said that the presence of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in the next assembly elections in the state would not have any adverse impact on the ruling Congress' electoral prospects.

Talking to reporters here today, Capt Singh reiterated that the ruling Congress would go to the polls all alone and BSP chief Ms Mayawati's decision for not having poll alliance with any party in the state is unlikely to have any impact as the latter did not enjoy much influence among voters in the state.

Capt Singh said that his party's vote bank among dalits and other weaker sections was ''all safe and sound ''and BSP is unlikely to make any dent in Congress support base.

BSP president and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Ms Mayawati had announced here yesterday that her party had decided to go to assembly polls in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Uttaranchal on its own, without a poll alliance with any other party.

Ms Mayawati is to preside over party's conference of office bearers of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh being held here today.

The Chief Minister who was also in the town since yesterday afternoon, clarified that he had no talks with Ms Mayawati.
