NFR cashes on improved law and order
Aizawl, July 2 (UNI) The North-East Frontier Railway (NFR) today recorded the highest revenue growth among the 16 railway zones in the country, owing to the improved law and order situation in the region.
NFR has recorded revenue growth of 21 per cent and passenger growth of 26.5 per cent during 2005-06, official sources informed.
In terms of loading, 19 per cent growth was recorded in 2005-06, as compared to the preceding year. However, inspite of all these achievemnts, NFR still remains a loss making unit.
During this period, NFR also introduced "Passenger Profile Management System" to enable it identify the rush in the waiting list and subsequently accommodate them by adding new coaches.
Sources informed that NFR would effect major changes in the timings of the trains that would save time, ranging from three hours to seven hours depending on the nature of the journey from yesterday.
The sources said 17 new trains will be introduced to accommodate the increase in passenger traffic, besides the 650 extra coaches already added.
