Monsoon clouds continue to hover in northwest India
Chandigarh, July 2 (UNI) Monsoon clouds continued to hover in parts of Punjab and Haryana for the second successive day today, while parts of Himachal Pradesh experienced light to moderate rain.
Western disturbance lay over north-east Afghanistan and adjoining north Pakistan and upper air cyclonic circulation over Himachal Pradesh and neighbourhood, extending upto 2.1 km above sea level.
A fresh upper air cyclone circulated over central Pakistan and adjoining north-west Rajasthan and neighbourhood and extended upto 900 metres above sea level, according to the Weather Office here.
Light to moderate rain or thundershowers will occur at many places in Himachal Pradesh and few places in Haryana and Punjab during the next 24 hours.
Several areas in Himachal Pradesh, including Sundernagar, Suni, Kasol and Gamroor, received rain this morning bringing a considerable fall in the temperature. Sundernagar received 0.5 mm rain this morning. The capital town of Shimla which received 3.6 mm rain yesterday, went without rain today.
The weather remained dry in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh, leading to a slight rise in day temperatures. In the Union Territory the maximum temperature stood at 37.2 degrees celsius, one degree above normal.
Hisar at 41.3 degrees was the warmest place in the region. Ambala recorded a maximum of 38.4 degrees, one degree above normal, while Karnal was warm at 36.2 degrees, a degree below normal.
In Punjab, Ludhiana and Patiala recorded a maximum temperature of 38.0 degrees, while Amritsar recorded 37.6 degrees. Shimla was warm at 25.1 degrees, three degrees above normal while Bhuntar in Kullu district recorded a maximum of 35.4 degrees, five degrees above normal.
