Delhi reeling under hot, humid conditions

New Delhi, Jul 2 (UNI) As the first monsoon rains continue to elude Delhi, the national Capital continued to witness hot and humid conditions with the maximum temperature recording 39.4 degrees Celsius, two degrees above normal.

A Meteorological Department official said the conditions are expected to prevail over the next 24 hours.

The minimum was recorded at 26.6 degrees Celsius, which is two degrees below normal.

The relative humidity was recorded at 82 per cent.

He said the conditions are favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon into some more parts of northwest India, including Delhi, during the next 48 hours.

Generally cloudy sky with rains or thundershowers in some areas are forecast for the next 24 hours. The maximum temperature is expected to remain around 39 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, the Southwest monsoon has further advanced into remaining parts of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, some more parts of West Uttar Pradesh, remaining parts of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir and some parts of Punjab and Haryana including Chandigarh.

The northern limit of monsoon passes through Udaipur, Gwalior, Barielly, Dehradun, Ambala and Amritsar, the Met officials said.
